Techopedia Explains Identity Resolution

Identity resolution is primarily a data management technique delivered through a software solution. It works by connecting to different data sources consisting of various data types and records related to individuals. When an individual is searched through an identity resolution solution, a series of algorithms, probability and scoring is applied to find and determine any associated records. For example, an enterprise might have more than one person named John Smith. However, through identity resolution, this individual’s other data attributes such as telephone number, address and Social Security number can help differentiate all of these individuals or detect matches. Although identity resolution is mainly used to detect identity theft and fraud, it is also used in large database solutions for customer data integration (CDI) and master data management (MDM).
