Techopedia Explains Intelligent Device

Network connectivity for intelligent devices is being used for an ever-increasing variety of products. To manage these over the Internet a new category of software is being designed, called device relationship management (DRM) software, which manages, services and monitors diverse intelligent devices.

In February of 2009, Harbor Research, a world leader in market research and consulting experts for machine to machine (M2M) communication and smart services, published its 2009-2013 M2M / Pervasive Internet Market Forecast Report report, which estimated that:

  • Intelligent device shipments will grow from 73 million units in 2008 to 430 million in 2013.
  • Total revenue from intelligent device sales will exceed $12 billion by 2013.
  • Most growth will occur as a result of wireless personal area network technologies, particularly those used in wireless sensor networks.
  • Strong demand for M2M and associated services persists.
