Techopedia Explains Internet Routing

Internet routers route packets from internal networks to external Internet-based routers. Internet routing enables a user to access web pages and other data stored on a remote website from their home router. Internet routing involves broadcasting or sending a message from an internal network to an external network using Internet-based networks. Such routing generally involves sending a message that travels between several Internet service providers (ISP) or autonomous systems (AS) before reaching the destination.
